Reflections on the Death of bin Laden

by ken2shoes

Every time guns fire and blood spills
something is lost
and most would say that, in this case,
something was gained.

What was gained?

If the answer is
that someone who bore a great loss
can rest in peace, so be it.
Who am I to disagree?.

If the answer is
that we are safer
why is the “threat level” being increased?

If the answer is
that a thirst for blood has now been quenched,
drink if you must.
As for me, I’ll pass that cup.

I will pass that cup, too Ken. Really thoughtful exposition, and I admire your carefully considered point of view. Considering the whole event, since the day it began, I can find nothing in any of the deaths, including his, but yet another small handful of sadness.

this was a lot more considered, and humanitarian than my " bullet to the head " poem about osama ken. violence breeds violence. it always has.......having said that, i'm not going to lose any sleep over the fact that people like osama and saddam are dead - love and peace - payl.

You know, I don't blame people for their reactions either. If I lost someone in the Twin Towers I don't know how I would feel about it. Peace to you Paul.

A poignant poem Ken. Sadly...as Nietzsche pointed out...Human all too human.
Cheers...Harry

Me too, me too. Personally I see the whole thing as an important object lesson and proof that eventually tyrants meet their just desserts. However I culd never pull the trigger myself. (sigh) conundrums: Whom do I regard/when I gaze into the face/ of the destroyer. Think I'll go post that one. Thanks for the inspiration! Love and a hug, Tasha

Intriguing poem as it is inveigling. I liked the leverage of thoughts interwoven into intellectual tapestry, stating that sadness comes through its explicitly mad renaissance. Quite a journey gandering at your thoughts for the retaliation is double the cost. Blood spills leak like metaphysical tears, casing 'threat heights' into the USA.
