| wordsmithwannabe's recent Blog entry. | Music ( 570 reads) | Tuesday, March 26, 2013 (19:36:00) | | | The music that makes up the proverbial soundtrack of my life is as varied as the 40 years that I’ve spent on this earth. I grew up in a household that moved to a mix of Elvis and the Supremes, buffered by Mozart and Pachelbel with a lump of Conway Twitty thrown in just for kicks.
I showed an interest in music at an early age and my parents couldn’t have been happier, being music lovers themselves. My dad and granddad both played guitar, my uncle played drums, and my grandma taught piano; all four of them tried to teach me their respective instruments, to no avail. I’ve tried repeatedly over the years to learn an instrument, any instrument, but I think I’ve finally come to grips with the fact that I’m just not meant to make music, only listen to it, and I’m cool with that.
In regards to my musical tastes, I would have to say that much of what I grew up with has stayed with me over the years. I still love to put on some Marvin Gaye and groove around the house on a Sunday morning, or throw on some Boston and sing my guts out. Sade or Dido might accompany me in a hot bath, and Strauss and Brahms can be found on my iPod when I’m studying. Paul Oakenfold’s wicked spins make for great driving music, and Billie Holiday is perfect to snuggle up to on a cold rainy day.
There isn’t any type of music that I purposely avoid; some forms just appeal to me more than others. I listen to a wide range of music, from country to classical and everything in between. The common thread that these types share is that they are chosen dependent upon my mood at the time. I rarely listen to music just for the sake of listening. Just the same, I prefer to have something playing in the background most of the time, especially when I'm writing. | Last 10 News Submissions: |
