madpoet's recent Blog entry. Sinai dreamland ( 13047 reads) Saturday, July 15, 2006 (01:09:00)

I wanted to write about this earlier but i had no time,i spent the mid year vacation in dahab, south sinai,it was a beautiful place,The main purpose for the vacation was to obtain a PADI diving certification, everything went well.
First i arrived at mohamed ali's camp,Nice and cozy place,i arrived at night so i went to sleep as soon as i locked the room,i was tired for it was 10 hours traveling and we passed about 7 police check points.

Next morning,i went to the dive center, got the material and tried the diving gear,we had 7 confined water dives which were boring excercises so i will skip to the open water dives.

The place is Light house reef, its a sandy slope, starts 7m depth and we started to see corals and rock formations that are unique and strange, the
variety of fish is amazing mostly anemone fish, morray eels and piccaso triger fish,

Let me introduce you to my dive buddy, mike from denmark,we met on the bus to dahab he was having problems explaining his destination to the police officer,i translated what he was saying, and we became good friends.

And my instructors woolfgang and saleh saleh is from sudan he instructed me in the advanced open water course later on..

The next day we went on a night dive......
I was not comfortable with the idea at first, but all the anxiety inherited from collective mind vanished when i got into the wet suit and went on the water.
We went through the same course in light house, but this time the only source of light is our torches, all the fish were asleep, hanging upside down, annoyed by our presence,at a specific place woolfgang told us to switch off our torches...
we did....
he waved with his hands, and i could see all those glowing suspended particles glowing brighter and brighter,i waved with my arm,and i could see those particles around my hand, glowing in green and blue...

later on i took a shower and went to the TOTA the hottest place in town,i was standing by the pool table when i caught my friend sherief and his friends drinking,i joined them, few drinks and i took this english girl to sit by the sea shore whispering naughty things in her ear... Wink

Next day we had a canyon and blue hole dives, firstwe went to canyon, the canyon is a crack in the sea bed at 30m depth,it is one of the most popular cave dives in the world,we entered the caveand reached down to the bottom,we came out of the cave and i catched with the corner of my eye a big shark fleeing away..

the blue hole was the next drift dive,we took the EL bells enterance(a narrow crack leading straight down to 30m) then we drifted along the reef wall to enter the infamous blue hole, many died there testing their limits, beduians dont like this place, they say that there was an evil tribe living here and that an earth quake cracked the earth under their feet so the crack made the blue hole, well as always you can never be sure about these things, although sinai is the land where mythology was born, egypt itself is the womb of history, but we can never be sure, the blue hole itself is amazing,109m depth and there is an arch down there leading to the exit(but because of depth limit for us we didnt go there30 m was our limit),i noticed as you go down the fish gets bigger, down there we saw manta ray fish, sharks and barakuda giant morray eels...best dive ever.

the day we got certificated ,we all celebrated, bottles of champagne were exploding, the music was loud and the smoke was impossible...

The next day i went to TABA north of sinai,i stayed in a resort called salah el din (saladin) where which salah el din built a fort on pharoh island (the place were moses and his followers crossed the sea),you can see the fort on the island and egypt's flag flying over the fort, amazing sight,site..

I like your insightful views....you sound very interesting!
I too feel we should make the most of this very moment...and I try to live my life in the moment, not waiting on a moment that may never come!
