To My Poetic Self

I want to reach across my thoughts,
shake hands with you like someone
I finally was going to meet,

But you didn’t show up, left a note
saying you’d be back in awhile,
really wanted to get together.

You didn’t e-mail, call, drop a line,
leave a phrase, word or insight
for me to have while you were gone.

Well tough shit. I don’t give a damn
if you ever return. You make me anxious
with your words, each needing to be layered

like the pig’s stick house, hastily built
before the breath of critical review
topples it, so I can’t escape
