Life's Battle

Sherri L. Smith 1966 (Alexandria , VA)

Each day at sunrise we awaken to face
Life's battle in hopes to win this race
When we are victorious we receive praise
And hope the sun will shine always

But when the rain begins to pour
Defeat creeps in and locks the door
Now life is over so it seems
And down the drain goes all our dreams

In our search for contentment
Nothing is found
Suddenly all the walls come tumbling down

We drown in our tears
Crying in sorrow
Having a pity party
Like no tomorrow

We search the world and 7 seas
Still we can't see the forest for the trees
So we try another route but still end up in a maze
Ever looking forward to brighter days

Fighting for our life
Trapped in a hurricane
Life's battle has nearly driven us insane

Finally we're at the point of no return
When in creation will we ever learn?
Life's battle is  only a state of mind
Like a puzzle if we seek we shall find

So remember when we face the agony of defeat
We must take the bitter with the sweet
