I am Kenyan. Poetry has saved my life. I have lost most of my work because it was too painful to read. I am going back to it now, living through it, and healing. My words, are my medicine. I hope my poetry helps people out of their dark days, like it did me. I hope it sheds light on the struggles and wins of African women and Africans in general. Words have power. I'm also here to read, learn and support other poets.

I...

But you're particularly obsessed with your hair,
Remember that day in my room When you told me to touch it?

For those whose souls refuse to conform,
Who walk beyond society's norm,
Create your...

SOUL HEALING THROUGH THE CHILD WITHIN

Even as you heal,
And you're miles from where you started,
That insecure little girl inside of you,
The one you're trying to heal can be quite fragile.

I don't know if there's a 100 percent healing,
But her insecurities remain right on the...

WHISPERS OF FANTASY, ECHOES OF REALITY

How did I survive?
Life always offered me two doors,
One is the roughed up door to my reality,
And another golden gate to the fantasy world.

That is how I survived,
I always chose the golden gate,
My fantasies were wild and felt so real,
My...

It really is a powerful force. I just wish we'd embrace it more than fight it out of fear. It is scary though.
