Analysis of Superheroes

Lori A. Powell 1962 (Saint Mary’s PA)

Everyone knows that superheroes do not exist
Young or old, man cannot resist
A fantasy of how a superhero looks
In cartoons and in  books
in movies and in our minds
For  decades we’ve kept them alive
Superheroes are a timeless trend
So if they are not real why do we have them?
A superhero of any kind
Is simply defined
To have more power or ability
Than a man who is ordinary
The story is always the same
The superhero saves the day
Evil causing destruction
Raging fear is their function
The superhero has the ability
to destroy evil and save humanity
Like a light in the dark
Revived by a spark
A spiritual landmark
Of who we are
A reminder of morality
To persevere in reality
Without good man cannot cope
Peace comes when there is hope
Man is reassured by this
Living life is his purpose
So why do we have superheroes?
Perhaps this is how it goes
To give us hope when there seems to be no hope
To not give up but just let go
That’s all man needs to know
The story will never get old

About this poem

What if superheroes were real? Would you be able to see one? How can you tell? The more I thought about Superheroes, the more questions came to mind. One thing I know for sure is that I always feel good after I watch a Superhero movie.

Lori A. Powell

I enjoy writing. I’ve written 2 children’s books. “Les Lobster” and “Stars are everywhere” I live in the forest where the river meets the ocean. Sometimes it’s easier for me to write than to talk to others. Ironically, I used to be a switchboard operator. I write because it seems right to write. Plus it keeps my mouth from getting into trouble. more…
