These Scars

Back when I thought I’d never stand
I jumped not knowing where I’d land
I held my breath and closed my eyes
I prayed the sun would finally rise
And when I looked up at the sky
I felt the tears in my eyes dry
When all I could feel was doubt
I knew the stars would not burn out
The mountains I learnt to climb
I found a way with every step I took
When I couldn’t see
And couldn’t breathe
I knew one day I’d reach it
These scars showed me that I am strong.
These scars showed me how far I’ve come
And these scars wont ever fade away
These scars remind me of the pain
These scars showed me that I was once weak
And these scars now they’re apart of me
These scars remind me that I broke
And these scars prove that I have grown.
These scars remind me that I’m flawed
And these scars remind me to work hard
These scars force me to never quit
And these scars tell me to not give in.
I’m not who I was before
I’m not that girl anymore
I’m so grateful for the marks
And I’m so grateful for the scars
