To my little sibling

Keisha Tiana Miles 2002 (Port Elizabeth)

When the night was filled with anger and screams
I held you tight until you fell asleep
When the night was filled with anger and  screams
I held myself until I fell asleep

When they made us feel neglect
I made sure you felt loved
When they made us feel neglect
I held myself to feel loved

When the feeling of rage was thrown at you
I shielded you  from its graze
When the feeling of rage was thrown at me
I held myself while bearing the tender wounds

When your tears fell onto your pillow
I gave you mine
When my tears fell onto my pillow
I allowed the coolness to brush against my skin

When I attempted to fly
You allowed your sorrows to burn through my wings
By the guilt of trying to put myself before you
I will stay the bird with the clipped wings
