Heartbroken

I met you when I wasn’t supposed to
And now I can’t let you go
If you never really liked me then why put on a show
You showed me what I couldn’t have and even wrapped it with a bow
I naively dreamed of a life with you
Filled with hope that you could one day see it too
You made me believe that I mattered to you
Then one day I find out that that’s actually not true
You prematurely meant so much to me
Something you could never see
Perhaps that’s why it was so easy for you to fade away
Cause you were actually never meant to stay
I cried and cried away my pain
But what of my heart that is left with your stain
You left my heart broken in two
Can I now mend it with some kind of glue?
Fast forward a few years
And I still sometimes shed tears
It took me some time to see the truth I’ll admit
But learning the truth I do not regret one bit
How could I lose someone who never cared about me
It was always just me and never we
