Darkness

ShaKeisha Windham 1993 (Inglewood, CA)

Stuck in a state of despair,
Falling deeper down the hole.
Wandering aimlessly without purpose,
Heart blackening like a lump of coal.

Depression settles in,
Like a snug sheet on a bed.
Pain fills the crevices of my soul,
Leaving my heart full of dread.

Fought to stay on top,
Got knocked down repeatedly.
Held in the anguish,
That slowly drained my energy.

Surrounded by pure darkness,
Searching for that sliver of light.
Pretending everything is really fine,
While praying hope will soon be in sight.
