My Everyday Mask

Halloween is my everyday
When I go to work,
My mask is on
And who I was is now gone
I’ve become quite the talker
I make jokes and think about comebacks
Throughout the day

But at the end of the shift,
I leave the costume party exhausted
Tired from the day’s performance
And as I’m driving home,
Listening to the radio
who I was is now gone
And my face begins to smile
Because I know,
When I turn that knob around,
I will be completely
Alone
