Analysis of Wishing Wins
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Winning is not a given.
Nor is a love of discipline.
To have it begin.
As a life changing event.
Kept to remain without an end.
Sitting to wish for wins to receive,
Takes the making of mistakes.
Unafraid to face them and admit,
An appetite to crave...
Has its disappointments.
And an array of obstacles.
Coming as if to test one's determination.
Determination?
Is never satisfied by mediocrity.
Since,
Once that taste of doing better arrives...
Stays to keep one sleepless.
Up at nights.
Attempting to find a better way to erase,
That chase to accomplish the impossible.
And even at one's best,
From others heard to have it said.
The one wishing wins,
Can not stop.
Regardless.
How exhausted the mind trys to convince,
One driven to win.
When the only competitor there is,
Happens to be...
The very one who refuses to accept,
Their own criticism!
'You will never be perfect.
Believe and accept,
The success of your accomplishments.
To who and what,
Are you wanting to prove?'
'That I can!'
'That you can?
That you can do what?
Out do and be better than yourself?'
'I can and I will.
Against the odds!'
'Come here.
Closer.
I want to whisper this to you.
Have you lost your mind?'
'That...
I have yet determined.
To prove or decide.'
'There you go.
Being opinionated.
Stand in line.'
'Stand in line?
Stand in line behind who?'
'Me!
How obvious should I make this?
And people think what I do to win,
Is easy.'
'I'm going to leave you alone.'
