Analysis of Close To Almost
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
I find myself,
Getting close to almost turning my back.
Daring to not stare,
At a disbelief going on everywhere.
With a desire to walk away,
From all that I see.
But for whatever the reason,
Some of that which I daily observe...
I must admit,
Is so incredibly appalling.
Disgusting and offensive.
As if intended to attract others as well.
So we stand together and watch,
While discussing amongst ourselves...
Just how close to almost we are to leave,
All the nonsense to disbelieve...
What is going on to ignore it.
'I gotta go.
I've got better things to do with my time!'
'But hold on.
Look over there.'
'Over there!
Can you believe it?'
'No, I can't.
I'm going in that direction.'
'Me too.
Let's go see what's going on.'
'Why not?
Since we can not avoid it.'
'Tell me about it.
Impossible it is to ignore it.
Ask the others if they are coming with us.'
'I already did.
But they said,
They are staying where they are.'
'What sense does that make.
Why?'
'They can't believe what they are seeing,
Can be that disgusting!'
'As if it's going to change.
Come on.
Let's go see what's going on over there!
