Analysis of To You? Yes! I Have Stopped Listening
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
You have no idea,
How much I would give...
To at least have you pretend,
Listening to a word I say to you.
Lands perfectly.
And doesn't run off the runway?
What do I have to do?
Make a dentist appointment?
To have every tooth pulled,
Out of my mouth?
'One second.
Okay...
Here it is!'
That's exactly the point I'm making.
Everytime I want you to pay attention,
To something I have to say...
Having some benefit,
As to the way you live...
Your too fast to live it life?
You find something else to do.
And in my face to prove,
Just how rude and disrespectful you are!
What do I have to do to prove,
My concern?
You are much too old to punish,
As if a spoiled child.
'Hello.
I would like to make an appointment.
My name?
Hold on.
He's sitting right here!'
'Who is that?'
'It's the receptionist at your dentist office.
And...
I'm waiting to listen for you to do,
That something you say...
Will benefit the way I live my life!'
'End that call.
Put down the phone.
Then put it in your pocket.
And act like that brain in your head,
Is still connected to a mind to use.'
'Whose being rude and disrespectful now?
I too am concerned.
Everything you promise to do anything,
You are the one who never delivers!'
Dear God...
Many years ago I was told and convinced,
Just one friend to have...
Was worth more than a pocket of gold.
And...
I admit to feeling blessed.
When that friend appeared...
Selling what I knew then,
Was nothing more...
Than Whole Life B.S. and I bought it.
When it was Term Insurance I wanted.
'And...
Not to interrupt your quick display of faith.
Also share with God...
Who it was that paid,
To keep your insurance policy active.
Each time it lapsed,
From...
SOMEONE'S lack of payment!
And...
Not to be rude or disrespectful,
To YOU, Almighty God.
I'll give you one guess!'
Are you finished?
'Listening to you?
Yes!
