Analysis of The Ever Brewing Alchemy of Life

Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)

Meditate, O wandering one
upon Thyself,
upon thy inner Self.
Open your inner vision
and observe.
Despite your outer vision of an outer world
obverse,
a greater world of possibilities…
of possibilities deep within
awaits you—
It is a zealous world
of wealth and wonderment.
Awake, O wayward pilgrim
to the call…
to that call which beckons you…
which beckons you without ceasing.
Meditate, O wayward one
upon the golden prize.
Inward,  buried deep within,
is the ever brewing
Alchemy of Life.

About this poem

A lifelong student of Jungian analytical psychology, I was inspired to write this poem to highlight alchemy, a central theme in Jung’s hypothesis of Individuation, as therapeutically essential to the engagement of the collective unconscious in the lifelong process of the human desire to become whole, and to recognize the transcendental nature of the psyche in that process.
