Analysis of Too Good of a Good Thing

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

There are still so many,
Who continue to believe...
Their success to achieve it,
Can be done individually.

Born to be blessed.
In the presence of abundance.
And from birth surround,
By a wealth of choices.
To notice with each step taken.
Can at first overwhelm.
With a rushing each step,
To be encouraged by others to discover...
Something else.
That takes a beginner's breath away.
Too good of a good thing,
Eventually becomes taken for granted.

Distorted by choices of variety.
We begin to learn to feel entitled.
And spoiled to assume to believe,
More of what we already have...
Is not enough to be thankful.
Satisfied or pleased.
Leaving many left to perceive,
What others have is ours to take.
By any means necessary.

Then separate into divisions.
Creating political and religious beliefs.
To live behind built walls and fences.
With a teaching to be taught,
There is a left opposite the right.
And black is not white.
Which ultimately determines,
Who is deserving...
To live their life the way they like.

Eventually?
Too good is this good thing.
Too good and gone unappreciated.
Thoughtlessly left disrespected.

Laws are broken by those who make them.
Rules to obey enforced upon others,
Are disobeyed to accommodate...
Who it is that chooses,
To interpret another meaning...
With fresh rhetoric.
Only those within an exclusive knitted loop...
Understand to make understood,
What they have chosen to approve and do...
Does not include outsiders looking in.

A good thing that comes to be done,
For some.
Will one day for all be realized.
That...
If it had not been,
The efforts endeavored...
By those purposely kept unknown,
That too good of a good thing...
Would nowhere exist as it now appears.
To keep it fictioned to delude,
From the sky it dropped exclusively.
Only for the ones to choose and pick.
While others observe and watch them do it,
Should at least express...
How blessed they are to receive,
Leftovers to value.
Regardless of the quality!

'What are they,
Groaning and moaning about now?'

'The supply of food,
Stacked high and stored for them in cans.'

'I can't believe it.
We go out of our way,
To ensure...
They are provided,
With the best of nourishment.
And this is the way they express to us,
Their gratefulness?
What else do they expect us to provide?
Mansions, yachts, gold watches to wear?'

'Some are whining about,
Not having can openers!'

'Oh.
Well.
What else do they expect from us?
How are we expected to know,
What their needs are?
If this is not brought to our attention.
I'm not a mind reader.
Are you?'

'No.
I don't believe so.
But...
I once was told by my previous roommate.
I had that ability.
When I asked why,
My personal belongings...
Were outside; left at the curb.
And inside trash bags.'

'I...uh...
Wish there was something I could say,
That would not have you think or assume...
My thoughts are more on the price,
Of those trash bags.
When it would have been less expensive,
Just to bring your stuff to the curb.
And leave them there.'

'Thanks for sharing.
No. Me?
I wouldn't assume or think,
You had thoughts like that at all.'
