Analysis of AT LAST

Making her body as the canvas
She painted herself red,
Peace and comfort
Long shunned and dead.

Again, a voice screamed inside her mind
What if it goes too far?
But long gone was the ability
To think of the wrong path.

She reasoned it, saying
It keeps her mind ajar
What she forgot was that
It kept her life.. at par

Finding its use
In a way so unacceptable
She liked that
Blades could cut, more than just a paper

Holding her breath
Bracing herself
Prepared for a swift motion.
One...two...or many,
She still couldn't reach the conclusion

Maybe one day
She would stop
Maybe one day
Wounds would heal
But never would they....
The scars...would go away

Finally, closing her eyes
She gave herself,
The escape she needed.
As a surge of pain, made her whimper,
Her soul....... Left in a whisper.
The murmurs died in her head, and
She realised it was the end

And just like that
It went too far
Not intentionally
But everything fell apart
Probably it was finally peaceful
To be gone ..... At last

About this poem

This is a poem about a girl who is using self harm as a method of forgetting her miseries and to stop the voices in her head. In one such attempt to make herself feel good through the pain she ends up hurting herself way more than intended due to which she dies.
