Analysis of Persistent
Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)
Sometimes poetic thoughts will come
To me both day and night.
They will persist 'till they exist
In poems that I write.
Such thoughts will try and try to be
Preserved in written form.
If I ignore, they'll try some more
To get me to perform.
I'm glad they come to me; it's true.
But they must learn to wait.
I can't write fast the words that last
Which is this poet's fate.
