Analysis of Is this Progress?

Technology’s labeled progression
for knowledge, it lets us explore.
Perhaps, name should change to regression,
for life was much better before.

We held no remotes in the hand.
No click of a button to make.
To change tv channel we’d stand.
Would force us, a few steps to take.

In head, sums would be calculated
and books were not buried in dust.
Imagination, was created.
for thinking was process to trust.

Existed no texting for sending
with others to show how we feel.
The words were then spoken, unending.
In past, conversations were real.

The memory of smile never faded.
A hug, would our troubles embrace.
No chance to be truth masqueraded
with mask of a photoshopped face.

Back then, children touched rays of sunlight.
Envisioned all planets unseen
while rolling in grass with delight,
when life was not lived on a screen.

What happens if progress keeps growing?
What will be the future we face?
AI will take over, all knowing.
Of mankind, no longer a trace.

Gisela Vigil

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…
