Analysis of Anxiety

Freedom is what is given to those that can afford it.
The people that don’t run around in circles in their heads.
Chasing after thoughts and emotions
Trying to understand what they are supposed to do.
Wondering if life is really worth living after all.
Running this way and that
Heading both everywhere and nowhere at once
Fighting through crowded places
While also walking down lonely allies
Seeing the world pass by and thinking
‘Is it really worth staying?’

Coming to no definite answer
So, running again after meaningless plot
Filling in spaces that were left to wide.
Adding subcategories to parts of life that give meaning to them.
Listing friends, coworkers, family
Blurred faces and names that have little meaning.
Stuffing to show that possibly you should be here.
The hole you feel isn’t really empty.
It’s just not full.
That the words
‘Is it really worth staying?’

A ticking clock waiting to hit the right hour.
Even though the second hand moves faster the more you look.
Ticking away in the ear loud like drums
Beating away to a tune you cannot dance to
Showing that the world will move on even without you.
That your being is insignificant
Those thoughts and emotions you chase after mean nothing.
They will be forgotten as soon as you depart.
Just the same as you will be.
So, the question still remains,
‘Is it really worth staying?’

About this poem

This poem is about the thoughts and feeling of not being in control of oneself. Fighting against what is expected in normal society while hiding away it at the same time because it's too scary.
