Analysis of Le Saule

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

Tout à l’heure, sous les éclats
Et les souffles de la tempête,
Le saule brandillait sa tête,
Et l’étang cognait ses bords plats.

Avec de mortelles alarmes,
Par ce vent, ces rumeurs, ces feux,
L’arbre tordait ses longs cheveux
Sur l’eau qui balayait ses larmes.

Calme, à présent, l’étang reluit,
Le ciel illumine la nuit,
Et, sans qu’une brise l’effleure,

Le Narcisse des végétaux
Admire encore dans les eaux
Sa figure verte qui pleure.
