Analysis of New Year's Memories

Solitude, whispered sighs of quiet;
Blue skies framed behind frosted trees,
The frozen pond remains draped in isolation.
No movement, just our frosted breath
Formed across chilled lips.
Cold seeping through our winter layers.
Together we shatter the quiet
The rhythm of our blades chime,
As on musical wings we skate
Across the black icy pond.
Like happy children we delight
In the movement and the song,
Our skates make as we whiz
Around the pond hand in hand.
Later the kids and grandchildren
Will arrive to join us,
Celebrating New Years Day;
A tradition we have established.
Kids red-cheeked and excited
Will skate and tumble in the snow
While us old folks, chilled to the bone;
Gather around the bonfire,
Toasting marshmallows and hot dogs
 And drinking hot chocolate to warm our icy fingers.
 We find hope for the New Year,
 Contained in our family gathering
 But for a few more moments
 The pond is our sanctuary.
 Our blades glide across the ice
 Making the first memories of this new year.
