Analysis of Something Like This, Wealth Never Gave

As night takes part of the day
Still in blisfullness, embraced in a lustful way
The wind sweeps over, incircling we
The rest is left to you and me

You are a pure beauty of the night
Such a magnificent treasure to those with the gift of sight
In this solace, all truth still holds
You rest upon my arms, in a comforting fold

I have no bout, no reason to complain
For I am with you, my princess, in our amorous reign
We lie under a great tree's shade
A moment that will last forever, as in my arms, you lay

A skin of the past, we have shed
Because of our actions, taken to the bed
But I have no despair, or regret for it, I do not mourn
For I have finally heard Cupid's beautiful horn

The sun rises, on us the rays burn
Awakening to the sight of you, my blisfullness does return
Out of my arms, our of my care
To lock lips, embracing in a kiss we share

Caressing your face, I hesitate to yield
For it is more natural than the sun's rays on the field
On us, dawn has broke
But still here together, your hair I still stroke

With love in the air, it holds a power
It still wraps us, even to this hour
Something like this, wealth never gave
For what unworthy physical object can you take to the grave?

But our actions, be proud, it is no one's fault
Something hidden arose, in our heart's secret vault
But still, let no feelings or burden raise
Enjoy the moment together, for our act is one of praise

Joseph Shofner

I'm 17, soon to turn 18 this Summer. I'm going to college to become a Geologist this Summer & following Fall. I like writing poems, but I've somewhat stopped in the past month or so. But in the time I did write (For about 6 months - 1 year) I wrote several hundred, most of which I "fixed" by making them better. Most of my poems are about love, as love is a very important (but not prominent) thing in my life. I believe love is an expression of the best of things, and poetry is an expression of love, so with poetry I express my love (Since I can't in other ways) I'll try to publish a poem a day (Maybe more, as I have them written down, but have to re-type them all when publishing them onto here) Also I'm working on a booklet of around 30-50 of my best poems re-mastered to try & win a girl I like over. I don't know who she is, as the school year is about over, but I'm sure I'll meet someone at college who appreciates it as much as I do. Any questions/ want to talk message me at joealexshof@yahoo.com more…
