Suffering Servants
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Working together with Him,
We appeal not to receive;
The grace of spiritual vim,
Unless we truly believe.
In a favorable time,
That I listen to the Lord;
With salvation from my crime,
Knowing God has not ignored.
It is now favorable,
For the day of salvation;
With having no obstacle,
No fault in the foundation.
But as servants of the Lord,
We commend in every way;
That we keep in one accord,
So we do not go astray.
Endurance in affliction,
Hardships through calamities;
Let no sinful addiction,
To become iniquities.
Total chaos caused by riots,
Fasting through such sleepless nights;
Leaders acting like puppets,
Are senile in their sights.
Through purity and patience,
Kindness with genuine love;
His Spirit in your conscience,
As blessings flow from above.
Because the power of God,
That is armed with righteousness;
His truthful Word that you laud,
Trusting His faithfulness.
Honor against dishonor,
But treated as impostors;
Yet true being a fawner,
With preaching as ministers.
We are dying yet we live,
Being punished yet not killed;
Since the past He did forgive,
His Holy Word has instilled.
Sorrowful yet rejoicing,
Being poor but with great wealth;
For my lips and tongue voicing,
As from my spiritual health
