Thirsty Souls
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
O God who I earnestly seek,
You are my God that my soul thirsts;
Because this body is feeling weak,
Quench me from Heaven through cloudbursts.
I look in the sanctuary,
Beholding glory and power;
Strengthen me for I am weary,
Safeguarding this very hour.
Your steadfast love better than life,
Allowing tongue and lips to praise;
While surrounded by the strife,
Throughout all of my nights and days.
I bless you as long as I live,
In Your name lifting up my hands;
For compassion that You forgive,
After I stray from your commands.
For my soul will be satisfied,
From eating of fat and rich food;
With joyful lips are glorified,
Giving me the right attitude.
I remember You when in bed,
Meditating throughout the night;
By Your blessings that I am fed,
Refreshing me by morning light.
For You have been rendering aid,
Under the shadow of Your wing;
I rejoice and not being afraid,
Having songs of joy that I sing.
My soul is clinging unto You,
While Your right hand upholds me;
For knowing that Your Word is true,
Giving insight so I can see.
But those who seek to kill my soul,
Shall go deep down into the earth;
Because You have been in control,
My foes does not have any worth.
They shall feel power of the sword,
But are devoured by a fox;
For when confronted by the Lord,
A carpenter builds them a box.
