Reasonable Doubt
So fast the time has come to go.
For those of us older and the elders now.
To have grown to know,
Some horrific mindbending experiences.
That has left many of us,
Emotionally drained.
With this to accept,
The medications taken to keep numb...
From the next shocking turn of events.
Many younger people these days,
Not only accept but expect.
I remember a time,
When having reasonable doubt...
Had a reason to admit,
Doubt to have it was reasonable.
With common sense to use.
Once to excuse,
An ignorance displayed.
To know in those days,
It wasn't the latest fad.
Or a fashionable craze to stay that way.
But...
Times have changed dramatically.
So fast.
That what was then to live it experienced.
Today children find it difficult to believe,
There was a time people actually lived...
Reminiscing to remember,
Children walked to school.
Through rain, snow and blizzards.
With a desire to learn,
Something new to be taught.
And...
Respectfully,
Brought apples to teachers.
Who were happy to greet them.
Without being drunk or high on weed.
Or...
Witnessed to see
Arrested and handcuffed.
For allegedly having a relationship,
With a student to have it announced...
What was done to do,
Was permitted by parents giving consent!
'Your Honour?
I'm not denying these charges,
Brought against me at all.
You see...
The father and I end our relationship.
And I had no idea,
My lover was his son.'
'And...
What about your wife?
Crying in this court.
To have your misdeeds exposed publicly.'
'That has to be an act, Your Honour.
Since she and my ex-boyfriend's wife,
Had long been known to be...
Lipstick lesbians.'
'What in the World,
Have you folks done to your children?'
'We taught them,
From the time they were little kids...
Love to have is love that is shared.
Regardless of one's ethnicity.
Political affiliation, religious belief.
Or thread count of the sheets,
On the bed where that love is made!
