Faith and Works
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Having faith as someone may say,
Can their faith available to save;
What good as they would disobey,
Allowing the sin to enslave.
If brothers or sisters are nude,
And you tell them to go in peace;
If they hunger for lack of food,
Once they are gone does hunger cease.
Without giving of what they need,
Then you allow your faith to die;
For allowing faith to succeed,
Let your compassion to show why.
If you have faith and I have deeds,
Show your faith and what you have done;
You need to cater to the needs,
Think of how it is dealt by the Son.
You believe that God is as one,
Even demons believe and fear;
For the Father, Spirit and Son,
Worshipped as one that we revere.
For your faith without works is dead,
Faith apart from works is useless;
It is foolishness in your head,
Causing your faith to be fruitless.
Faith and works makes you justified,
Along with works, faith is alive;
Just as Christ had been crucified,
Puts your motive in overdrive.
God is more than merely your Lord,
He will be also as your friend;
As you show that He is adored,
For He is ready to defend.
Faith alone cannot justify,
Rather along with works warrants;
Without both of them would deny,
Receiving heavenly guidance.
