The Light of the Gospel
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Having this by the grace of God,
We receive mercy and faint not;
Never losing heart for we laud,
Search the Scriptures what He has brought.
But we renounce the hidden things,
The disgraceful deceitful ways;
Not walking what craftiness brings,
For maybe another that strays.
We refuse to screw with His Word,
But the open statement of truth;
Commending as consciencely heard,
Through rebuking all the uncouth.
But if our Gospel is veiled,
From someone who is perishing;
They have been lost since they have failed,
For feeling of His cherishing.
In their case the god of this earth,
Has blinded the unbelievers;
And are not knowing the true worth,
Being spiritual receivers.
It keeps them from seeing the light,
Of the glory of Jesus Christ;
That gives us morally insight,
As not desires be enticed.
For what we proclaim is not us,
Rather Jesus Christ our Lord;
As servants for His sake as thus,
For remaining in one accord.
Let light shine out of the darkness,
Has shone in our hearts with light;
Knowledge of glory of starkness,
With the wisdom to give insight.
