Welcomed Is The Postering
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Manifested gestures,
That continue to suggest a kept interest...
In an uplifting of the quality of life,
To realize this identified...
By those once believed the middle class.
Now only shown,
The postering of backs turned.
As a way to prove,
They are listening with concern.
And welcoming to discuss,
What has left so many...
Feeling ignored, outraged and disgusted.
However...
Those who poster with backs turned.
Declaring their concern to have for others,
First say they must inspect,
The chaffing pans and presentation...
On buffet tables.
To prove it shown to the ones,
Still considered 'Middle Class'...
Not a dollar of theirs is spent to waste,
On frivolous and tasteless imitations.
'The crystal goblets and bone china,
Adds just the right touch.
And the linen table cloths,
On the recently bought...
Mahogany polished tables,
Gives the room...
Such an inviting atmosphere.
Our guest speakers will love.'
'All I can say,
Is the impression to make it...
Has definitely been made.'
'Hopefully our honored guests,
Will also appreciate...
From where we imported,
The delicious cuisine we have researched...
How much they love.
From what I understand,
The food is a tradition not well known.'
'I can not wait,
For the surprising looks on their faces.
What will they discover?'
'Our ability for details.
And our willingness,
To spare no expense to please our guests.'
'Oh...terrific!
What's on the menu?'
'Collard greens.
Hamhocks, hogmaws, chitterlings.'
'Chit-ter-lings? What the...'
'Blackeye peas, Buffalo, baked and fried,
Chicken.
Potato salad, smothered chicken gizzards.
Oxtail, pigfeet, ears, snouts and brains.
Cornbread, sweet potato, lemon maranque, apple and deep dish peach pie!'
'My goodness!
Who are these people?
And where are they coming here from?'
'Well...
When their representative called me,
Immediately I noticed...
This thick British accent.
Reeking of royalty.
So...
I didn't want to embarrass myself,
By asking questions.
Then...
I was told how they would be,
Landing from a flight...
Higher than a kite.
Wearing the most colorful costumes,
Their ancestors wore centuries ago.'
'And...
You took for granted,
They were foreigners?
From a distant land?'
'Of course.
Who else could they be?
Aliens from a distant planet?
Or...
Heaven forbid,
Those loud, weed smoking folks...
Coming here from the inner city?
Expecting to milk us for funding?
To endorse and support,
Something outrageous.'
'Someone who lives isolated,
In a place where...
Only talking animals,
Are permitted to exist.
Is going to be in need of smellings salts!'
'Will you stop with your,
Exaggerations!
I know when I am in the presence,
Of royalty.'
'Have you...
Tasted your 'research' yet?'
'You and your insinuations.
Of course not.
Once I have made eye contact,
I'm sure the tasting...
Will be a mutual invitation!'
'So glad I am...
You handled this all by yourself.
Leaving no one else to blame.'
'It is always the guilt of those envious.
Isn't it?
Pretending to be pleasured.
And happy for someone else.'
'The joy I'm feeling right now?
Is too genuine and authentic.
Leaving me too selfish to want to share.'
'Sure!
Remind me to invite you to the wedding!
