Credibility
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Credibility is earned.
Just as one's dignity to keep.
In the face of adversity.
And why do those who choose to stand,
As tall as they can...
When challenged by opposition?
Only those who take for granted,
A way of life...
Handed down from one generation,
To another taught to accept and believe...
Themselves to be descendants,
Of fictioned animated characterizations...
Sold to market imitations and pretense!
Credibility is a process to earn.
Just as one's dignity to keep.
In the midst of diversity.
And also in the face of ignorance kept,
By those who refuse to believe...
Their identity is theirs to protect.
With a doing to respect themselves.
And not to accuse others,
Of being negligent and irresponsible...
Community leaders,
Setting poor examples...
For aging grown adults.
Raised to remain and stay good children!
Credibility is earned.
From lessons learned.
Mistakes to make them.
And less excuses to create.
With a hoping this erases,
Adulthood to face it!
As many perceive,
Their ability to run away...
From being responsible human beings,
Is easily done when placing blame...
On someone else.
Held to hold accountable for actions,
Not theirs to own or confess negligence!
'How do you feel?'
'How do I feel about what?'
'Abandoning your own siblings.
To live your own life selfishly.
With a doing to find,
Your purpose in life.'
'Abandoning?
I did what I could.
But...
Neither had I been,
The father or mother of my siblings.
And I only admit,
To being devoted with commitment...
To my own dreams.
With a wish to want them to come true.'
'Wouldn't you regard this,
As being selfish?'
'With a determination,
Motivated by a craving to succeed?
Yes.
And...
I thank God,
I was not persuaded to accept guilt...
As a reason not to live my life.
You know,
Years ago...
I had heard it said,
Selfish are those...
Who only think of themselves.
To finally open my eyes to realize,
Those seeking happiness from others...
Not having this to feel inside.
But looking for it given to them,
By someone else who has it.
What is that if not selfishness?
Hey,
Call me what you want.
But never will you define me,
As a leech!
My mama taught me to learn and teach.
Not leech.
And...
If anyone wishes with a want,
To accuse me of abandonment?
Guess who has achieved happiness?
And guess who still to this very day,
Have not one clue...
What it means to identify that feeling!'
'Which feeling?
Abandonment or happiness?'
'Both!
One to leave behind.
To discover the other found to find!'
'You act as if you are proud of it!'
'I apologize.
My acting skills have rusted a bit.
I'm elated.
My path taken has had several,
Less agonizing alternatives.
But...
There is something about a challenge,
That makes the facing of it...
Much more deserving when earned.'
'And...
What does this have to do,
With one's achieving of credibility?'
'What sense does it make,
To hear someone elaborate...
On something yet not to mention,
The acquiring of experience to have?'
'So...'
'No.
No more questions.
And no to your time,
Attempting to waste mine.'
'I am not a gynecologist!'
'You mean psychologist, perhaps?'
'Which do you prefer,
Me for you to rather be?'
