Toys Destroyed
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
There are still many people,
To have grown from children to adults...
In age only.
Who remain to believe,
Throwing tantrums and destroying toys.
Will get them the attention,
Done to do as they please.
As this today is witnessed to see.
And these 'children',
Have been taught to teach...
A pledging to selfishness and greed.
Is the only way to succeed.
In a society in which a respect to get,
Has nothing to do,
With being disciplined.
Effort made to endeavor a life,
To enjoy having a purpose sought to seek.
Or pursuing to become,
A better human being.
As an example to set,
For children to expect and accept.
Without weapons to use to believe,
This makes them powerful.
In the eyes of others.
Also limited to ignorance to live it!
'Why do you call people ignorant.
Instead of stupid?'
'Ignorant people,
Have potential to overcome foolishness.
Those who act stupid,
Do this to attract attention.
And seldom do fools like this,
Recognize the potential they have...
From becoming bona-fide idiots.
Remaining to stay clowns,
For laughs and empty to get!'
'And you?
How would you describe yourself?'
'I have been a fool, idiot.
And an unpaid clown.
To have been brought to my attention.
When I was defending,
The comfort of my stubborn ignorance!'
'Oh?
So you admit to have been ignorant?'
'Of course.
Where and what do you think,
Wisdom develops from?
A love for remaining stupid?
Or growing old living in denial?'
'Hey.
Please do t ask me questions like that.
Because everytime I select,
'D'...all above on multiple choice tests.
There seems to always be one,
That makes a better answer.'
'I thought you told me,
You were a graduate student?'
'Noooo.
I said I was a student.
Hoping to graduate.'
'From college?'
'No.
I'm trying to get my G.E.D.
From adult learning classes.
I go to night school.'
'Whatever it takes,
Make sure the answers are straight up!'
'Huh?'
'Do us a favor.'
'Us?'
'Yes.
Us!
Stay in school.
And...
If you break your own toys.
Don't blame the act of it,
On someone else.
Earn to buy new ones yourself.'
'What?'
'Stay in school.'
