Optimistically Missed
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
We all come to live,
A life to value standards to us taught.
With a following to obey,
What we learn.
As a normalcy to stay that way.
We also grow to learn and live,
To become familiar...
With a dawn that rises upon the horizon.
That brightens the sky with Sun.
Welcoming another day that comes.
And we accept not to question,
That which is taken for granted.
To say each day to live that way,
How blessed we are to get what we have.
With nothing more to mean,
Than to impress others.
Also obsessed to obtain things.
To possess.
Yet...
Stressed we become,
Over dramatic changes unexpected.
Done made to accept.
Regardless how upset,
We express our thoughtless selfishness.
Caring less for anyone but ourselves.
With an optimistically missed to wish,
Someone to show an empathy...
For those struggles we have,
Keeping up with appearances...
Kept to address our pretentiousness.
And the loss of values.
Made fictioned to envy.
'Oh...my goodness.
I barely recognized who you were.'
'What do you mean?'
'Your nose?
It has been lowered.'
'My nose?'
'Yes.
I now can see your entire face.
I identify you for who you are.
I hope it wasn't too painful.
Dramatic changes to make them,
Are not easy to accept.
Or expect them effectively necessary.
It took me months to get my nose fixed.
And that blessing I got from God.'
'I don't know what to say!'
'I do.
Congratulations!
When the masquerading is taken away.
So goes the charade!'
'Huh?'
'Trust me.
You look better than terrific!'
'What?'
'You made my day!
Before?
We had nothing in common.
But a sharing of mutual ignorance!
I find you engaging.'
'Well...
I am divorced.
And happy to stay that way.'
'What?'
'I am single and in bliss.
Not to miss B.S.'
'Uh...huh?'
