Nothing Gained
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
There would be nothing one would gain.
To abandon and leave,
A peace of mind,
One has been blessed to receive and get.
Attempting to fix,
The wickedness of others...
Still doing it,
For the purpose to undo one's happiness.
There would be nothing one would gain.
To be placed in a position to explain,
A reason and why...
Yesterdays to live them,
They no longer find to prioritize.
Or try to discuss with those they know...
Who thrive on evilness done to do.
Hoping this to continue,
With someone or anyone...
Chosen to pick.
Without it to notice,
Games to play and their childish tricks...
Have long been known.
By someone too old to know,
Not only what time it is.
But also those,
Who masquerade themselves as adults.
Yet incapable to leave their childish ways!
'What is your problem?
We expected you to get upset.
And address what we did to express it.'
'I know.
But time has given me,
Something else to love.'
'What would that be?
Ignoring us?'
'Ignoring you?
That time to waste I no longer do.
I found aging and feeling blessed to do it?
The best experience in my adult life,
Not to expect it loved.
In the way,
I have discovered it done to do.
Do you mind if I ask you a question?'
'Go ahead.
And try to keep it simple, stupid!'
'I'll do my best.
Why is it,
Those who claim to have faith...
Always seem to believe,
Others feel threatened...
And fear their safety?
Then claim to have faith and belief,
In God?
Isn't that hypocritical?
Now...
You just called 'me' stupid, right?
Tell me...
What is it you call activities you do?
To find demeaning others amusing!'
(Silence.
Except for the sound of crickets.)
