Defending Fiction
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
A molding to witness decay,
Some will view this displayed...
Quite differently.
They will see such a withering away,
As something to protect and defend.
Yet...
Not show interest or could care less,
As to what made a molding...
Decay slowly to its death.
Few would rush,
To attempt to prevent the obvious.
Noticing the effects,
This decaying mold...
Has on the rest of life,
Flourishing around it.
Going ignored to suspect,
This flourishing done....
Becomes immune and unaffected!
Those who take interest,
Begin to discover themselves...
Subjected to abuse and disrespect.
For actively expressing to address,
Their concerns.
And doing this quietly in protest.
And the molding to decay,
Is left to spread.
Threatening the quality of a way of life.
Leaving those unaware caring less,
They were doing their best...
With a blinding to control over others,
Without the use of common sense...
Or being awakened to avoid,
Their delusion to grab a power to have.
And drugged on it...
They destroyed everything,
Around them that existed.
Including themselves.
'Why would people,
Do something like that to themselves?'
'They want to be noticed,
As being powerful people.'
'But wouldn't power people,
At least notice to take interest...
In preventing to stop,
What around them is obviously...
Molding to decay and beginning to rot?'
'If...
People like this,
Were aware and conscious...
Of what this affect,
Has on everyone's quality of life.
And their dependency,
Upon one another...
None of this,
Power to grab it selfish nonsense...
Would exist.'
'I don't understand.
What is the purpose and reason?'
'Image.
And the pretentiousness of it.
Ethnicity.
Diversity.
And who should sit,
In pictures posing to represent...
Superman.'
'That's...
No.
It has to be more complicated than that?!
It has to be!'
'Prove it.'
'Prove it?
Prove it how?'
'Volunteer to attempt to prevent,
What they have ignored...
Growing mold on it.
Then hum or begin to sing,
We Shall Overcome!
And from nowhere you will be attacked.'
'Attacked?'
Attacked for what?'
'Daring to be obvious!'
