Closed Up To Keep Shut
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Not to be opinionated.
But your assumptions made,
Are neither productive...
Contributive or conclusive,
To end the confusion...
You wish heard to hear.
With allegations to present,
That adds nothing to consider.
But more time to waste on nonsense.
Without proof of evidence to produce.
Either put up or close your mouth shut!
'I have never allowed myself,
To be humiliated like that.'
In your case,
This may be your first time.
But it won't be your last.
Too many you have victimized.
Leaving me and others to realize,
And left to believe...
Everytime you appear near the scene.
You know much more,
Than any bystander would dare to admit,
They are merely an eyewitness...
To a crime committed.
Done to have nothing to do with it.
Only to reveal,
Something in your mind...
Loosened from a tightened fit.
Are you temporarily crazed?
Or is your condition a permanent visit?
Please give us a hint or clue.
That permits us to move away from you.
'I did not commit this or any crime.
However...
If I am to be interrogated.
Can you estimate the time it will take,
For me to sell a book to obtain fame?
You see...
I am seeking to become,
A best selling author and movie star.
With a TV series made.'
'Well...
We can promise you,
A lifetime of mental therapy.
With lots of time chasing rainbows.'
'I had not considered that at all.
But tell me this...
If I can prove my mental illness.
And do this appropriately,
Enough to leave you convinced of it.
Could I then choose,
Where I am confined?
With a choice to be fed,
A vegetarian diet.
And a cell that will accommodate,
My yoga routine?
With somewhere quiet to permit,
My daily meditations.
From becoming interrupted?'
'Dear Almighty God.
In the heavens above.
Please show us a sign,
We are not surrounded...
By so many nuts.
And make it absolutely clear to us,
Our mission You have assigned...
Will define and clarify,
Who amongst us are the ones crazed!'
'There you go.
Trying to find a reason,
To ignore my efforts to endeavor...
An innocent way to make my dream true.
Not me but you,
I find guilty for not being encouraging.
And you wonder why,
More people like me...
Refuse to come forward to admit,
What their ambitions are...
To confess the truth of them.'
'AHHHH...
I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE.
I CAN'T I CAN'T!'
'Gee.
What's the matter with that guy?'
'He's the new Chaplin,
Of our police department.
We warned him what we were up against.
And...uh,
It seems you provided...
All the evidence we needed,
To convince him...
You can not judge a book by it's cover.'
'So...
What does this mean,,
For my efforts to endeavor them?'
'Maybe it's your approach.'
'What do you mean?'
'Those who first commit crimes.
Deny them until,
The evidence we find...
Satisfies with proof,
A closing of a case.
Then offers are made...
For books and movie deals,
To make them more legitimate.'
'Oh.
Well...
Apologize to your Chaplin for me.
And tell him,
I now understand how it works.
This celebrity business,
Is not as easy to achieve as I thought.'
'Stop watching TV.'
'That's gonna be difficult for me.
You see...
I am more of a video addict.
And my friends and I,
Then spend our time going to the movies.
And what you say,
Contradicts all of our beliefs!'
'Tell me about it.'
'From where do you want me to start?'
'Life.
And the death of reality.'
'Huh?
What?'
