Letter to Myself

Shantal Mesa 1989 (Santo Domingo)

I still go around in circles

I still ease my mind

From the terror, I am living

I've got nowhere to hide

Dear self I forgive you

for not knowing what was right

I forgive you for thinking

that the pain was alright

but I promise you now

That I will be better

for you and for me

for whatever comes later

and if I ever fail you

or get lost on the way

please believe what I say

I will find you

and hold you

because I am here to stay
