Wisdom Hymn
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
So where does wisdom come from,
The place of understanding;
That would keep you cool and calm,
Of something that is demanding.
It will hide from the living,
Concealed from birds in the air;
Compassion and forgiving,
Wisdom is willing to share.
We have heard fame with the ear,
Destruction and death would say;
Appeasement from any fear,
As caused from a hectic day.
For God understands the way,
Because He does know its place;
That flows to those who obey,
As well as mercy and grace.
He looks throughout the whole earth,
Sees everything in Heaven;
Creates beauty of its worth,
For the enjoyment given.
He gave to the wind its weight,
Disbursed waters by measure;
Allows land to compensate,
Cherishing all its treasure.
He made a decree for rain,
Means of lightning and thunder;
So that the land could obtain,
For a vegetal wonder.
God declared all that He saw,
Prepared for searching it out;
Nothing as having a flaw,
Ensuring there was no doubt.
The fear of God is wisdom,
Stopping evil is reason;
For turning away boredom,
Thanking for all He has done.
