Free Rental Space
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
I can not say,
Imitating others...
Some may consider flattery.
However,
Living rent free...
In another's head.
Doing it to deceive,
The truth and reality of what one says.
Or does to do,
To have others believe done.
Is not flattery to discover or it known,
Lies told and sold to those duped...
Is difficult to prove,
A living in someone else's head...
Free of charge.
Had never been approved.
By the one accused...
To have moved in without signing,
A agreement to occupy space.
In a head empty of use.
And no evidence or proof,
Of ever having a roommate.
'Uh..huh?'
For example.
Like yourself.
How do you explain,
The accuser claiming to know...
Every move you make?
'Explain?
What is there to explain?
I have never met or knew,
Anyone who lies on me.
To have others believe,
I am not who I am to be.
And trust me...
Flattered I am not.
Especially when they made up stuff,
I could have done a much better job...
At doing.
Drama is my specialty.'
You don't seem to be offended one bit.
'Well...
That kind of attention to get.
At my expense?
I have to admit,
Is free and keeps me controversial.
Right?
And at my age?
Why would I be offended,
By unsubstantiated nonsense?
The more the merrier.'
The more...
What do you mean?
'As I grow older.
Long passed the visiting,
Of my fading bloom.
I realize more,
The meaning and value of forgiveness.'
But...
What about your reputation?
And your character diminished?
'Who do you know is attracted,
To anyone who lives a boring life?
Talking about those good old days.
And times embellished to delude.'
That makes no sense at all.
'Exactly.
Tell me about it.
That's what I'm saying.
Foolishness,
Eventually has its dividends.
Although tolerating it,
Requires a patience.
Those who grow older know too well,
One reaps what is sowed...
At the benefit of someone else.
And that someone else has lived free.
In another's vacant head!'
