Discipline
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
There is severe discipline,
For him who forsakes the way;
Having caused to commit sin,
As to being led astray.
Hell and wrath before the Lord,
How much more within the heart;
The Word of God is ignored,
From the Lord that they depart.
Scoffers like not to be damned,
He will not go to the wise;
That would cause him to be slammed,
As some others would despise.
A glad heart makes one smile,
Sorrow crushes the spirit;
Attitudes can defile,
Of the things that you merit.
The heart of understanding,
Constantly seeking wisdom;
The mouth of fools demanding,
Feeds on folly and boredom.
All the days are afflicted,
By those who will do evil;
But cheerful hearts convicted,
Resists works of the devil.
Better is a little fear,
Giving honor to the Lord;
Great treasure when you revere,
And being in one accord.
Better is a dinner of herbs,
Than love of a fattened bull;
Because the appetite curbs,
More than a gluttonous fool.
