The Main Attraction
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
It has been heard to hear it said.
That one monkey can not stop a show.
Although...
If that one monkey,
Has been the main attraction?
And proven to be the reason,
Why a bustling city has grown...
To become chosen,
As an entertaining destination?
Guess what?
If that one monkey decides to go elsewhere...
Done to do and perform for what it does,
As well as be respected AND appreciated too.
That once bustling city,
Known for this one monkey that attracts?
This city and the people living in it,
Will also observe and witness...
What they had taken for granted gone.
Overnight!
And turn that city into a ghost town!
People throughout history,
Will take steps to destroy...
Their best attractions to believe,
If they change the face and image.
With an upscale appearance.
And a price no one can afford?
People will flock to it and stay.
Without noticing one main element missed!
The monkey.
Taken for granted, underpaid...
And repeatedly disrespected.
'Uh...
No offense.
But...
Is it possible,
We can have our investment returned.'
'Why?'
'Your efforts to recreate what we enjoyed?
Is at best,
A beautiful endeavor.
However...
You once had a monkey,
We grew to love very much.
When we came to visit many times.
Where is that monkey now?'
'We...uh...I...well...er...uh...'
'How soon,
Could we have our investment returned?'
'You know,
One monkey don't stop a show!'
'Is that your opinion?
A company decision?
Or something political to believe,
Would be of benefit...
To those limited without common sense used.'
'I'm sorry.
Is your comment a statement or question?'
