Preach the Word
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
I charge you in front of the Lord,
Who will judge the living and dead;
Be appearing in one accord,
And to be spiritually fed.
Spiritually fed through the Word,
Preach and ready for the season;
Complete patience in what is heard,
Longsuffering as the reason.
The time will come not to endure,
The sound teaching of the doctrine;
Lifestyles are becoming impure,
Because of lack of discipline.
The people having itching ears,
Listening to what suits their lust;
Attitudes changed over the years,
Causing a chaotic distrust.
The truth wanders off into lies,
While they have wandered away;
Reality they close their eyes,
Allows someone to go astray.
So always be sober-minded,
Bear suffering and affliction;
Never in becoming blinded,
That would cause a contradiction.
For I am already poured out,
Time of departure is at hand;
By the people who have much doubt,
In the Lord and where He does stand.
I already fought the good fight,
Kept my faith to finish the race;
As I keep walking in His light,
With all the blessings from His grace.
There is a crown of righteousness,
By which God for righteous justice;
Condemning all adulterousness,
Convicting immoral practice.
