More Rewarding Than Truth
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
The warning signs of anguishing times,
Have not been laying around us hidden.
As if brightly colored Easter eggs.
Excitedly for them to be found to find.
Has a privilege to fiction,
Our own depiction of reality...
Done this,
To our absent to distant minds?
Are impressions to make become that sacred?
And more rewarding to prioritize and achieve,
Than truth reduced...
Into a solution that dilutes truth to delude it?
It is not the warning signs.
Held up high undisguised.
And flashing around us all,
In blazing neon.
It is...
Without doubt to question its presence.
Our numbing addiction needing pretensions,
To create and fake them made.
In private or on public stages.
Done to do to charade.
While being praised in a parading,
Of exquisite masquerading false faces.
Masked!
And leaving many left to believe,
Everything done had been accomplished...
For the same quality and purpose,
Any mediocre movie or TV performance...
Would have done to expect nothing more.
'What a dire assessment,
Attributed to our quality of life.
Our standards.
And treasured values.'
'DIRE?
Dire!?
How many times have I recommended,
An entirely different script?
Another director known to take risks?
With more cliff hanging episodes.
And you say I am the one,
Assessing this repeated boring stuff as dire?
Do you know what time it is?
These kids,
Your kids...
Are observing your nonsense.
And think of it,
As nothing more but child's play!
You are the child.
And they are watching YOU play.
These children today?
They are seeking to be blindfolded.'
'BlindFolded?'
'Yeah.
Covered eyes.
Then put in a field together somewhere.
Away from peace loving people.
Then given automatic weapons...
Bombs and hand grenades.
To hunt down and kill one another.'
'Are you out of your mind?'
'AM I out of MY mind?
I...
I apologize.
I thought you were seeking,
Cures to find for keeping your peace of mind.
I did not realize,
This method you are taking...
Has been acceptable and approved
By hired psychologists.
Who are experts in the field,
Of peculiar and abnormal behavior!'
'They are.
But we only need their services,
After our children are rumored...
To have committed horrific crimes.
Unproven!
Rumored!'
