A Cry for Help
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Listen to my prayer, O Lord,
Give an ear unto my plea;
Let not it be ignored,
Your faithfulness answers me.
Enter not into judgment,
No one living is righteous;
Enemies causing torment,
And should be brought to justice.
For those foes pursued my soul,
And has been crushing my life;
Darkness trying to control,
By causing me so much strife.
My spirit faints within me,
My heart within is appalled;
O Lord, I know you must see,
They attempt to make me flawed.
I recall the days of old,
Meditate all You have done;
Ponder the work that is bold,
Accomplishment that was won.
I stretch out my hands to You,
My soul thirsts like a parched land;
Please help my mind to construe,
Save me from this sinking sand.
Conceal not Your face from me;
Lest I will fall in the pit;
Open my eyes as to see,
Make me spiritually fit.
Let me hear Your steadfast love,
For You O Lord, I will trust;
Your blessings flow from above,
Because You are fair and just.
Deliver me from my foes,
I flee to you for refuge;
For You are the one that knows,
From facing such a deluge.
Teach me, Lord, to do Your will,
For You truly are my God;
Lead my spirit to instill,
While I honor and laud.
