Will Insults Cease
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
When did insults become,
As popular as cheesecake and apple pie.
With a deliciousness to eat.
And also the selected choice to toss,
In the face of someone...
Unknown to have met to meet.
Yet...
Not too often has it been shown,
Delivered to anyone's home.
That chicken to boil in a piping hot pot.
Promised.
Or a knock heard on a loyal citizen's door,
From a flag waving patriot.
Declaring...
Freedom has come to everyone done,
Whose taxes have been taxed...
For the purpose to make up reasons to do it.
And...
A repayment is due,
If proof and evidence of this...
Can be produced,
Within twenty four hours from yesterday.
'Why are you crying and smiling like that?'
'Read this.
Read this terrific news.'
'Finally,
We are being shown overdue respect.
I can not believe...
Hand to me that magnifying glass.
It says,
Year...
TBD.
What does TBD mean?'
'I think...
To Be Determined.'
'Determined?
Determined, when?'
'Maybe...
And this is just a guess.
Maybe...
After 24 hours from yesterday has passed?'
'Well, that's a relief.
At least we haven't missed,
What's coming to us to expect.'
'I know.
Good thing,
You were able to read the fine print.
Think of all the people,
Being dupe and tricked.
And not following instructions!'
'We're RICH.
WE ARE GOING TO BE RICH!'
'Or...
Made penniless fools,
By joking creditors we owe.
If we dare to seek another loan.
Then make them the benefactors,
Of a life insurance policy.'
'Now...
That's real stupid.
Who would believe we could be that dumb?'
