Earthly Lights
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
As you have always obeyed,
Not only in His presence;
That you have steadfastly prayed,
For much more in my absence.
Work out your own salvation,
With fearfulness and trembling;
To be a new creation,
Continue with your humbling.
For God is working in you,
To work for His good pleasure;
Beyond what you can construe,
You are part of His treasure.
Do all things without dispute,
To utter by grumbling;
Never trying to refute,
Which would stimulate stumbling.
Be blameless and innocent,
As His child without flaw;
Compassionate beneficent,
Responding to those that fall.
A twisted generation,
That is crooked and perverse;
Shine with a transformation,
To light for the universe.
In this world shine as lights,
Holding fast unto His Word;
Keeping Christ within your sights,
Letting your spirit be stirred.
I am not running in pain,
Even if poured as a drink;
Neither have I worked in vain,
While I take time to think.
For service, I sacrificed,
I am glad as I rejoice;
With keeping my faith in Christ,
Because Jesus is my choice.
Likewise, you too should be glad,
Able to rejoice with me.
Never again to be sad,
For the glory that will be.
