Why Would Anyone Mind
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Why would anyone mind,
To discover and it found to find...
Their time given,
Sacrificing this to do for others.
Was and has to have been taken for granted.
As if their own life to live,
Is meaningless to value.
With nothing else they can choose to do.
But sit and wish to be repeatedly used.
Why is it that anyone would mind,
Being disrespected to expect it.
Then wonder to themselves,
Like no one else,
Has shown them to prove.
With a doing to care less,
That time they give to others...
Those of the others nowhere around to ask,
If there is something THEY can do.
To be of assistance.
No matter what it is.
Just to let it shown to be known,
How much they appreciate...
What another does to do done.
Giving.
Without hearing it mentioned,
Of excuses to conveniently make!
Faking.
A self importance taken.
Why would anyone mind,
That someone else...
Thought about others.
Than themselves to then find,
Time to complain...
About who has done what to do.
To take for granted this to notice too.
As if disappointed they had been told,
That time once given...
Is being used.
To take care of one's own business.
Done to finally recognize,
That business to take care of...
Has now become theirs to prioritize.
No longer that one to easily scrutinized.
'What's the matter with you?
Why the long frown,
On your always smiling perky face.'
'I can not believe,
What I was said to me the other day!
My jaws were so tight,
I felt my teeth...
Glued together as if to stay that way.
The nerve of some people.'
'Oh?
What were you told?'
'I was told and to my face.
By someone I had depended upon.
For years to be there for me.
And told...
They did not have that time to waste.
And suggested I'd find somebody else!
My eyes were all over them from head to toe!'
'No?'
'Yes!'
'How selish, rude and thoughtless.
Why would anyone say something like that?'
'Ungrateful.'
'Ungrateful?'
'Yes.
That's all that is.
And there had been times I remember,
If it wasn't for me,
They would have nothing in their boring life...
To do but wait for me to call.
I knew they had nothing else to do.'
'Some folks,
Get their butts on their shoulders.
And the next thing you know,
They begin to think it's all about them!'
'Tell me about it.
Ain't that the truth!'
