what is love

love is a silent expression
between two kindred souls
or the fondness and compassion
only a mother can dole

it is manic smiles & uncontrollable laughter
and the trust of a life,
contentment with silence or chatter
a foundation that can overcome a strife

it is not words but feelings
&inkstains on fingertips, bandaids on scars
a heart not burst, but beating
& all the beauty amidst the stars

it is love that bonds two friends
that is among fleeting glances your way
when what joins us are invisible threads
that do not flicker, or fray

so we must ask ourselves, really
for what is love but serendipity?
& when Cupid's bow aims daily
does it deny betrayal or duplicity?
but isn't it positively eerie?
how we still get caught in its tangibility?
