Living on the Edge
I court the dark lady, Death.
screaming on the edge of oblivion.
I stumble, careening near the abys,
but due not fall
My body swells with the throb of life
Emptying my lungs, I sing a song of ultimate dare.
I no longer fear the threat of dying,
As I walk the razor's edge.
I gyrate madly,
uncaring of my fate.
I know that the dark lady and I,
have a special date.
Her twin ebon pools of sight,
draw me near.
I embrace her,
as though I had not fear.
Almost lost in deepest shadow,
I spin away and mount another ledge.
I shout the shout of life,
fight the strife of closing night.
Rushing on another flight,
through darkening thunder clouds.
Riding the lightening bolt,
fly into the fierce gale.
Wail out the call of struggle unrestrained,
among the slashing rains.
I live completely alive,
every muscle moving, every nerve flashing life.
All my thoughts aglow,
senses heightened all..
I mount the precipice,
From it's top I swoop down.
Diving, dropping,
to within inches of the ground
I pull up,
hearing the song of Cosmos in my ear.
About this poem
There was a time in my youth when I lived this way. (don't try this at home)
