Like a Billion Year Dream
Cascading an icy mountain stream
Like a billion year dream
Dripping out a car’s exhaust
Glinting in the morning frost
Filtering through your liver
In cold air, can make you shiver
Or be a warming shower
Somewhere else the next hour
In the soda pop
Or a toilet plop
Soaked up by a tree
If we could be so free
In a fluffy cloud
Or a blood stained savior's shroud
In a mourning mother’s tears
Or in cold sudsy beers
In a pond with leaping frogs
In horizon hiding fogs
In a surfers dreamy wave
Dripping from a ceiling cave
Deep within the ocean
Mostly is in motion
Washed away the home
With no conscience it does roam
Can give life, and can drown
Same to the pauper and the crown
And without it, all will thirst
It matters not your best or worst
There’s wonder in the water
Like birth and sometimes slaughter
Where’d this come from, where will it go?
Maybe someday we’ll all know
A miracle and death
Refresh or snuff your breath
Carving, boiling, steaming, misting
Water's magic is persisting
About this poem
There are amazing aspects of the world that I think might sometimes be overlooked, like if a Christmas tree was kept up all year, it might not seems so special. A glass of water isn't too thrilling, yet where has it been? These same particles keep flowing through the world, in a animal, in the sky, etc., and do so much. These are some thoughts about that.
